Ensures the safety and well-being of all visitors to Indiana University events facilities by recruiting, training, scheduling and coordinating staff, implementing training and retention programs, and managing event planning and execution for over 200 events per year.
Serves as the deputy of the General Manager, who is the chief guest services officer to over one million guests annually and is responsible for ensuring all visitors receive exceptional service ensuring that Indiana University is presenting the best possible image to its guests, customers and clients, and assumes those duties in the absence of the General Manager.
Participates in the hiring and supervision of a pool of 1,000 guest service staff members for Assembly Hall, Memorial Stadium, Bill Armstrong Stadium, Bart Kaufman Field, Andy Mohr Field, Hayes Track, and other Indiana University facilities.
Participates in event planning and execution with IU Athletics game management staff, local law enforcement, emergency medical services and event clients; and prepares business and financial documents and records. Implements programs for student volunteer, employee, intern and practicum students focused on training, recruitment, advising and retention. Serves as a primary or secondary AIC (Administrator in Charge) for the public events held at IU Athletics event facilities (including IU athletic Olympic Sport events, university ceremonies, concerts and other high-profile functions), and interacts frequently with student athletes, coaches, VIPs, donors, facility clients and the general public.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in sports management, hospitality/events management, business or related field and two years of experience in the area of athletic operations or event management.
Proven ability to represent Indiana University in a professional and team-oriented manner; and strong organizational and multitasking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal including a customer service orientation and ability to interact and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and database applications; and ability to effectively use computers, telephones, two-way radios, and other event related equipment.
PREFERRED: Experience with event and operational logistics of athletic and other events.
Must be available to frequently work on evenings, weekends and holidays.
