The Director of the National Commodore Club (NCC) will collaborate with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Annual Giving as well as the Executive Director/ Associate Athletic Director for Development of the National Commodore Club in planning and setting strategic goals for the entire annual giving fundraising effort. He/she will be responsible for the managing of a portfolio toward cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of leadership annual gifts ($2,500 to $100,000) for Athletics. The position will also seek to identify major gift prospects for key initiatives for Athletics and Vanderbilt University. The Director will supervise associated staff on the Athletics DAR team.
Identify, cultivate and solicit alumni, friends, and foundations for gifts of $2,500 to $100,000; develop solicitation strategies for potential annual giving donors; make direct solicitations; staff athletics events and volunteers as needed.
Manage a portfolio of up to 150 annual giving donors to athletics
Qualify 4-8 major gift donor prospects each year, as well as identify and refer major gift prospects to the appropriate major gift officer
Develop and implement strategic goals and plans for the athletics annual giving fundraising programs which include the National Commodore Club annual fund and 14 sport specific restricted annual giving funds.
Work with the Development Alumni Relations Communications and Annual Giving Appeals teams to develop and implement a master calendar of solicitations for athletics annual giving
Develop an operational plan that allows NCC to function effectively and seamlessly within the DAR/Vanderbilt annual giving effort and builds a message of program success within the context of the university and its diverse institutes
Provide daily supervision to team members working with the NCC and stewardship; positions include Associate Director, Member Services Coordinator, and Donor Operations and Communications Coordinator
Lead effort to achieve annual NCC cash-in goal
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of development or relevant experience required
Advanced degree preferred
Prefer five or more years of development experience with at least three years at a major research university, including direct solicitation of annual gifts
Experience working with an intercollegiate athletic program experience preferred
Familiarity with Vanderbilt and/or solid understanding of a major research university environment
Experience supervising programs and administrative staff
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a goal-oriented team environment
Knowledge of annual giving and broad constituent fundraising through direct mail, online, social media, etc.
Travel and evening/weekend work as required. This is a full-time position.
