Duke University is seeking a qualified candidate for the Academic Coordinator position. The Academic Coordinator will provide comprehensive academic assistance to an assigned group of student athletes. This may include implementing collaborative educational development plans and providing structured academic assistance to student athletes as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide assistance for learning improvement and academic achievement.
Monitor academic performance of an assigned group of student-athletes.
Provide end of semester and end-of-year statistical information on the performance of assigned group of student-athletes.
Collaborate with deans, university academic advisors, coaches and campus wide academic support units in the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic assistance plans for teams and individuals.
Plan and/or conduct individual and/or group learning skills instruction for student athletes in their content or subject areas.
Assist in development and implementation of appropriate study strategies.
Function in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to work flexible hours and some weekends.
Support and collaborate with all members of the Academic Services Unit.
Monitor student athletes' academic progress in regards to all NCAA, ACC and Duke academic rules of eligibility.
Assist with the preparation of the annual NCAA APR Report.
Conduct recruiting meetings with prospective student-athletes per coaching staff requests.
Communicate effectively with both staff and students.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Academic Support and the Senior Associate Athletics Director
Master's degree in counseling, education, student development, athletic administration, or related field preferred. Experience in academic advising, teaching, or counseling at the university level preferred. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population of students, coaches and university administrators. Additionally, candidates must be able to meet unique student needs as they arise, be self-motivated, and be able to work a flexible schedule. High ethical standards and impeccable personal integrity are required.
This position is a 12 month appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience plus health benefits, paid on a monthly schedule. Anticipated start date is February 1, 2017.
