Under general supervision of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Associate Athletic Director, Strategic Communications is responsible for generating media coverage for CSUN Athletics and overseeing everything produced by CSUN Athletics, in print or online. As a member of the athletic department Senior Staff, the incumbent serves as the chief spokesperson for the athletic department; develops, manages, and implements a comprehensive communications plan for CSUN Athletics including electronic communications, website content, press releases and stories, social media, printed materials, video coverage and features and statistical reports for all 19 Division I sports; develops a department that addresses the needs of sports teams, the university and the media; cultivates relationships with local and regional media outlets for the overall promotion of CSUN Athletics; promotes sports teams, coaches, and student-athletes with an emphasis on a consistent and positive message; recruits; trains, leads, and manages the communication staff, including full-time staff members, student workers and assistants, gameday personnel, photographers, and broadcast talent; acts as a Sports Director for teams as necessary: writes game notes and competition recaps, maintains and updates statistical archives, rosters, schedules, etc., creates printed and online publicity materials, serves as main media contact for the teams, coaches and student-athletes, oversees gameday personnel, coordinates with visiting Sports Information Director, coaches and media; communicates all necessary information both up and down, ensuring that the communications department is connected and in synchronization with the athletics department; collaborates with Learfield Sports, all CSUN Athletic departments, University Advancement and any other relevant on-campus partners on projects and communications efforts; develops, manages, and monitors the budget for Athletics Communications, adhering to the university and department fiscal procedures and practices; coordinates preseason orientation meetings and training in conjunction with assigned sports teams as deemed appropriate; coordinates travel and paperwork for communications staff to away events, conference meetings, etc.; manages all payment forms for temporary or part-time employees; operates within the scope and intent of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Conference and University regulations; and performs other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college in a marketing, market research, or in a related field. Master's degree preferred. Equivalent to four years of full-time professional or technical experience in public affairs, media relations, marketing and/or market research at a supervisory level. Supervisory experience and/or experience developing a marketing research program for an organization is preferred.

Demonstrated ability in developing innovative marketing strategies to promote a product or service; proven ability to develop marketing plans for target population, implement direct mail programs, advertising, promotional materials, web and database marketing; and ability to create workable and efficient strategies for tracking and analyzing marketing and promotional efforts. Demonstrated ability to use on-line data resources to assess a potential market and develop a marketing plan. Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and evaluate comprehensive marketing research programs using primarily Internet resources. Proven ability to work with macro environmental factor - demographics, economics, politics, and technology. Demonstrated ability to interpret competitive analysis data-demographics, psychographics, and behavior analysis. Proven ability to create data based segmented marketing projects. Ability to analyze and synthesize market research data for the purpose of identifying markets. Demonstrated ability to define and organize a project; demonstrated competence in managing a project team; demonstrated ability to create documents and written communications; ability to write marketing and advertising copy; and ability to build and sustain long-term relationships with a variety of constituencies. Proven ability to use software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, SIDEARM, FTP client, for spreadsheet and database analysis; and ability to work in a team environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Possession of internet research skills; English oral and written communication skills; sound judgment skills; computer skills; interpersonal skills; and cross functional team leading skills.

The salary range for this classification is: $4104 - $6795 per month.
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4104 - $6795, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. May include some evenings and weekends.
