The University of New Mexico Athletic Department invites applications for a student success specialist position. This position will work with Olympic sports and coordinate the department Life Skills programming. The position coordinates and advises on a variety of programs associated with student success within a major, and autonomously functions as an academic component of the university. Implements programs and initiatives with defined recruitment, retention and graduation outcomes. Provides guidance on a variety of student support services such as: recruitment, placement tests, financial aid, academic and career advisement, tutoring, accessibility services and early crisis intervention. Implements strategic and operating plans as appropriate to meet the learning and academic success needs of the student population. The position will also assist student-athletes in understanding and meeting eligibility guidelines based on NCAA, MWC, and UNM requirements. This position will also be responsible for managing and directing department Life Skills programming, to include educational, career, and personal development activities.
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Sports Management/Administration, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience with:
Advising collegiate student athletes,
Knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules,
Knowledge of NCAA Life Skills programming,
Experience in taking initiative, self-motivation, and professionalism, strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills as supported in resume and cover letter.
