Work in direct partnership with the Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Deputy Athletics Director and the Vice President for Development to provide leadership and guidance to advance the department’s private fundraising and marketing efforts.
Provide vision and leadership for campaigns and fundraising plans by planning and executing all fundraising efforts while managing expectations and balancing resources to achieve transformational success.
Serve on the senior leadership team for Athletics and work in concert with key leadership to develop a plan that will provide the necessary financial resources for Intercollegiate Athletics.
Responsible for building private support for the institution through the management of an integrated, comprehensive program aimed at alumni and friends, including individual, corporate and foundation partners.
Help achieve the Athletic Director’s advancement goals by building strong relationships with a broad base of alumni, friends and corporate and foundation partners designed to increase annual philanthropic support.
Provide leadership to the department’s annual giving and John Purdue Club membership areas and participate in all other aspects of Athletics development efforts.
Provide oversight for the planning and execution of special events, both on and off campus, designed to support and promote the fundraising efforts for Athletics.
Lead the organization’s development team to create and execute strategies to continuously scale up a comprehensive, best-practice development program, including principal gifts, operations, philanthropic communications and donor relations.
Create and implement complex strategies for a portfolio comprised of potential donors with seven to nine figure capacities.
Manage the Intercollegiate Athletics Development team by establishing and communicating goals, providing leadership on prospect strategies, measuring outcomes and providing regular performance evaluations.
Drive a culture grounded in continual growth and high-level collaboration – focused on direct engagement of external constituents at the highest level.
Develop and maintain an analytical approach to data management – focused on maximizing donor base growth and retention.
Actively and consistently engage in fundraising by developing relationships with donors whose interests and financial capability have the greatest likelihood of strategically meeting the JPC fundraising goals.
Advance relationships with donors and prospective donors through the appropriate stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Work in partnership with the UDO Planned Giving team to develop a list of planned giving prospects and move them through the cultivation process to final planned gift.
Manage prospects for ongoing sport-specific projects, with asks ranging from $50,000 to $10,000,000+.
Lead assigned project campaigns, including developing campaign plans/strategies/prospect lists, assigning staff contacts and managing follow-up.
John Purdue Club (JPC):
Provide overall direction for an externally facing annual fund focused on personal recruitment and advancement of JPC members, including all membership recruitment campaigns and initiatives throughout the year.
Assist in growing JPC membership and provide guidance to assist in the recruitment and retention of JPC members on an on-going basis.
Evaluate donor benefits and update/create new benefits as necessary to promote membership in JPC.
Provide oversight of JPC event logistics and coordinate with the Director of Development Operations and JPC event planning staff on event details to ensure the appropriate audience at each event.
Direct JPC efforts for personal recruitment of new donors, including making an appropriate number of phone calls and personal visits each week/month to recruit donors.
Collaborate with The Aspire Group to drive annual fund growth via outbound sales approach.
Create and sustain stewardship activities designed to engage donors and move donors to higher giving levels.
Supervise both regular and temporary staff, including students.
Make decisions/recommendations regarding hiring, terminations, compensation, and performance appraisals.
Assign, instruct, and review work of support staff.
Highly motivated individual with strong relationship building skills and a demonstrated capacity for leadership, organization, and teamwork.
Strong conceptual understanding of development, public relations, and marketing.
Strong professional communication and listening skills and the ability to represent the University and PRF with tact and diplomacy at all levels.
The personal qualities of integrity, discretion, excellent judgment and sincerity.
A commitment to a program that is accountable for its productivity and that measures that productivity and effectively.
An inclusive, people-centered management style.
Familiarity with the University and the programs of Intercollegiate Athletics desirable.
Personal computing and related software skills, including work processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc. desirable.
Ability and willingness to travel required.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Degree in athletic administration, communications, management, marketing, or related field preferred.
A minimum of five years in the development, fundraising, or alumni relations required; marketing, athletic Purdue University experience a plus but not required.
Must have a successful record of accomplishment in leading significant fundraising efforts, including soliciting and stewardship.
Experience in advancement leadership in a higher education environment is highly preferred.
