FSU College Highlights and Selected National Rankings (As of January 2016)
Florida State University's efforts to expand student engagement in undergraduate research have received national recognition from the Council on Undergraduate Research. In 2015, the Washington D.C.-based council selected Florida State as one of six research-university finalists for the inaugural Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishments (AURA). About 25 percent of FSU undergraduate students currently conduct out-of-class research, with many more participating within the classroom. In the next four years, overall engagement is projected to reach 100 percent with the implementation of current curricular initiatives.
"Best Value" Public University
Florida State consistently delivers an affordable, high quality education and offers distinctive opportunities to engage its students. In 2015, Forbes ranked Florida State the No. 13 "Best Value" university in the nation.
Programs ranked No. 1
The Journal of Criminal Justice Education ranked Florida State's College of Criminology and Criminal Justice No. 1 in the nation for faculty research. The graduate program in interior design was voted "Most Admired" in the nation in DesignIntelligence's "America's Best Architectural and Design Schools," for 2016. It is the fourth consecutive year the graduate program has earned this honor. U.S. News & World Report, "Best Graduate Schools," 2014 edition, ranks the School of Information's school library media program No. 1. Numerous other programs at Florida State rank in the Top 5.
Best for Vets
Military Times ranked Florida State No. 8 in the latest "Best Colleges for Vets" rankings (2015), which are published annually by the magazine. Florida State's online graduate programs in education (No. 2), criminal justice (No. 7), information technology (No. 18) and business (No. 22) are ranked in the Top 25 nationally for educating veterans, according to U.S. News & World Report's "Best Online Programs for Veterans" rankings (2015). The university received the 2014 MVP Project Degree Completion Opportunity Award from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) for its ongoing initiative to address the educational needs of veterans.
Florida State's continuing efforts to move diversity and inclusion to the forefront of the university mission received national recognition as the institution earned INSIGHT Into Diversity's "Higher Education Excellence in Diversity" (HEED) Award in 2014 and 2015, which annually recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. Hispanic Business Magazine ranked FSU's College of Law No. 2 best in the nation for Hispanic students, while the College of Medicine ranked No. 8 by the publication. The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP), named FSU as one of the top 10 "Access Improver" institutions in the nation for its outstanding efforts in supporting and educating traditionally underrepresented students.
The Seminoles completed a banner year in 2014-2015, highlighted by the women's soccer team's first NCAA title. Thirteen FSU teams competed in NCAA Championships, the sand volleyball squad participated in collegiate nationals, and the football team played in the Rose Bowl game for the first time. Five FSU teams won Atlantic Coast Conference championships — football, women's soccer, men's track, softball and baseball. As a group, the women's athletics programs posted a No. 4 finish in the Capital One Cup standings.
Leading the State of Florida
Florida State University leads Florida in four of eight areas of external funding for the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Leads in Rhodes Scholars, claiming all three of the Rhodes Scholars from public universities in Florida since 2006. Highest percentage of alumni giving back than any university in Florida. Highest amount of National Science Foundation research and development expenditures in the state. College of Law is the No. 1 law school in Florida with the highest job placement and one of the highest passing rates on the Florida Bar Exam.
