Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a Head Coach for Women’s Basketball. GCU is a Division I institution and competes in the Western Athletic Conference. This individual must be able to identify, recruit, retain and develop qualified Division I student athletes who will compete at the national level and who will reflect Grand Canyon University academic standards. Finally, the successful candidate will have characteristics consistent with the culture of character, excellence and ethics that define GCU Athletics.
Responsible for developing and overseeing the day to day operations of the women’s basketball team, including but not limited to:
Plan, organize and conduct tryouts and practices.
Select, supervise and coach the players on the team.
Develop an annual plan for the program which will address competitive schedules, practice schedules, and conditioning programs etc.
Coordinate all student-athlete recruitment for the women’s basketball program which includes the organizing, identifying, and all follow-up of qualified student-athletes.
Coordinate all team travel and recruitment travel (on-campus visits, etc.)
Monitor academic progress of student athletes and work collaboratively with student services department.
Coordinate team meetings.
Responsible for broadcasting and public appearance commitments to promote the program.
Responsible for maintaining all aspects of bookkeeping duties.
Manage, monitor, prepare, and adhere to budget recommendations for each fiscal year.
Responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations of the Athletic Department, Grand Canyon University, Western Athletic Conference and the NCAA.
Prepare weekly CARA forms to student services and monitor all weekly practice hours.
Responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships among peers.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with the university community, alumni, departmental personnel, high school coaches, media, and the general public.
Establish and maintain working relationships with all area basketball coaches surrounding the city of Phoenix.
Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of various basketball events, public relations, and promotional activities.
Supervisory responsibilities may include Assistant Coaches, Volunteer Coaches, Graduate Assistants, Trainers, and administrative staff.
Perform other athletic related tasks as requested by the Director of Athletics and/or designee.
Bachelor’s degree required and a master’s degree is preferred.
Successful record as collegiate coach, preferably within NCAA Division I.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including ability to establish and build a good rapport and effective working relationships with student athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, administrators, college faculty and staff, alumni, professional colleagues, the community or general public and representatives of local and national affiliations.
Certification in NCAA off-campus recruiting or ability to pass the testing requirements.
CPR, First Aid and Coaches’ Safety Training certifications required; AED helpful.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record and occasionally operates University vehicles.
