The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. The department has approximately 250 administrative & classified employees and hosts over 600,000 spectators annually and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competition with other universities & colleges.
The purpose of this position is to manage the Athletic Communications Office’s public and media relations activities for all intercollegiate athletics sports. This position will oversee the creation and implementation of a comprehensive media relations strategy for the Athletic Department that focuses on optimizing the local, regional, and national exposure of the athletics programs and the successes of Oregon student-athletes.
Responsible for oversight and strategic planning of public relations, communications and media for the 20 sport University of Oregon Athletic Department. Provides management of consistent strategic external communications maximizing all forms of media, including traditional media, broadcast media and new media as well as serving as the point person for any inquires and crisis communication initiatives. Responsible for creating, monitoring and remaining within an annual budget of $600,000.
A successful individual will also provide strategic communications counsel to the Athletic Director, department senior staff, head coaches and other key department personnel. The Senior Associate Athletic Director, Communications will also oversee the content and management of department website (goducks.com).
Serves as the department point person to local, regional, PAC-12 and national media outlets and be the liaison with University Communications. This position will work closely with the department’s external staff (marketing, ticketing, and development) to create and promote various initiatives to coordinate, streamline, and enhance communication efforts.
Senior level position reporting to the Athletic Director
Supervision of all full-time employees, part-time employees and student workers within the unit. Maintains working expertise of rule interpretations for all intercollegiate athletic sports to comply with PAC-12 Conference and NCAA statistical requirements, as well as historical documentation.
Responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics programs, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the university, Pac-12 Conferences and the NCAA.
