Director of Communications and Digital Media Strategy

Director position reports to the Assistant Commissioner for Competition and Branding. This position in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Broadcasting and Communications is responsible for the daily coordination of all League communications. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:
Oversee all aspects of media communications for all league sports including, but not limited to: weekly releases, weekly awards, statistics and post season coverage.
Serve as primary communications contact for assigned League sports, including men’s basketball.
Administer athletic and academic award programs for assigned sports, championship preparation and coverage.
Attend championship events and provide lead communications coverage.
Travel to select regular-season men’s basketball games and post-season contests.
Lead the creation and deployment of Horizon League content on all mediums (e.g., website, social media).
Lead the development and implementation of the Horizon League digital media strategies.
Cultivate and maintain local, regional and national media relationships and coverage.
Ensure accuracy of information on league platforms, with an emphasis on quality and relevance.
Serve as staff liaison to Sports Information Directors' Peer Group.
Assist with the content development, production and support of Horizon League digital content as needed.
Assist with the development of conference marketing and promotional plans.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Include:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of three years relevant experience in college sports communications required.
Exceptional oral and written communications skills with advanced knowledge of AP style.
Collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with a variety of constituent groups (SIDs, athletic directors, senior woman administrators, members of the media, coaches, NCAA staff, etc.).
Ability to manage multiple time demands and prioritize tasks.
Innovative and strategic social media experience with verifiable results.
Knowledge of current social media trends and platforms.
Experience in event management transferable to championship events.
Willingness to travel and work on weekends, vacations and holidays, as needed.
Ability to embrace and lead through change.
Advanced knowledge of computer software applications and programs, including but not limited to: Adobe CC, StatCrew, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
Knowledge of a variety of sports and their associated statistics and terminology.
Basic understanding of graphic design principles.
Previous experience with video, including shooting and editing, is preferred.
General knowledge of television production and streaming work flows.
Editorial judgment for distribution of press releases, social media posts and website content.
Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules.
