This position reports to the Academic Advisor (supporting Bryant Men’s Football). In this developmental opportunity, the incumbent will be involved in developing, managing and executing academic support plans for student-athletes. Through this internship, the incumbent will gain exposure to various aspects of academic advising and student athlete career development.
This is a part-time, temporary position from August 1, 2018-April 30, 2019. The Student Athlete Development Intern can expect to work between 15 and 20 hours per week.
The primary responsibilities of the Student Athlete Development Intern include, but are not limited to, the following:
• In consultation with other Advising staff, assist student athletes with developing their career goals. Develop relationships with constituents on campus who can aid in student-athletes professional development by referring student-athletes to appropriate resources in a way that encourages them to follow through. • Assist the Academic Advisor (supporting football) in their collaboration with other Academic Services staff (ACE and the Writing Center) in strategy and management of student-athlete academic support and academic progress. • Assist in contributing to the overall development of our student-athlete by providing structure, support, encouragement, motivation and education • Adhere to NCAA rules compliance in and be fully informed regarding institutional compliance with the NCAA and Northeast Conference rules. • Perform related duties as assigned.
This position is best served by an individual with a Bachelor’s degree and an interest in the fields of athletic academic support, higher education, and/or collegiate athletics. Experience working with student athletes, or as a student athlete, is a plus. Must be proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office and have the ability to relate to students of diverse backgrounds and varying levels of academic proficiency. Requires ethical, personal, and academic integrity standards in line with that of the mission of Bryant University and Bryant Athletics; the ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality is imperative.
