Reporting the Associate Athletics Director, Development, the Director of Development will develop and implement long and short term plans to secure major gifts from alumni, friends, volunteers, corporations, foundations and other entities with an emphasis on gifts of $100,000 and above in support of the Department of Athletics and the university's mission, objectives and priorities as set by the Athletics Director and Senior Vice President.
The Director is expected to maintain confidentiality and use good judgement when working with sensitive information; be proficient with MS Office programs and regularly utilize the customer relationship management system to include the timely input of prospect/donor information; and exhibit the behaviors associated with the Office of Advancement’s core competencies: Leadership, Continuous Improvement, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Communication/Interpersonal Effectiveness. This position will work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and overnight travel.
This position works in a fast-paced creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged.
Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience; At least three years of professional fundraising experience or professional transferable experience (i.e. managing relationships with required measurable output, making calls, conducting face-to-face appointments, creating and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client relationship or sales-related activities).
Desired: At least three years of professional fundraising experience raising the highest level of philanthropic gifts at an organization (preferably five or six figures and above); At least three years of professional fundraising experience in higher education or a hospital/health care environment; Experience working in other advancement departments such as donor relations and stewardship, donor communications and/or alumni relations.
