Colby is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and has 28 intercollegiate sports that compete at the Division III level, and four programs (men’s and women’s Alpine and Nordic Skiing) that complete at the Division I level. The department also hosts a variety of club and intramural sports. Over one-third of Colby’s 2,000 students participate in intercollegiate sports, and in total, nearly three-quarters are involved in fitness and recreation activities in the department.
The College has broken ground on the construction of a new, state-of-the-art athletics complex, scheduled to open in the fall of 2020, which is destined to be among the best Division III facilities in the country. The 350,000 square-foot athletics center will include an indoor track and field competition center, aquatic center with Maine’s first 50-meter pool, squash center, gymnasium, hockey arena, strength & fitness center, training rooms, and coaching suites. Additionally, the College recently opened a 70-acre-plus outdoor competition center that consists of three gleaming new competition and recreational fields that are also among the finest outdoor venues in Division III.
The Colby College Department of Athletics seeks an assistant equipment manager beginning as soon as possible. The assistant equipment manager will support the head equipment manager in all aspects of maintaining the equipment room for the Department of Athletics. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory records for all 32 varsity sports, utilizing excel and online databases
Provide a world-class experience and high level of service to Colby student athletes
Train and supervise student workers on policies and procedures relative to inventorying, laundering, issuing, and maintaining apparel and equipment
Assist head coaches in procurement activities to ensure necessary stock levels
Coordinate laundry services for all sports, including, but not limited to laundering loops, uniforms, and towels
Maintain clean and organized equipment room areas and ensure proper storage of athletic equipment used in and around the facility
Fit, clean, and repair equipment in accordance with NOCSAE and AEMA standards
Maintain all student athlete records with regards to fitting, maintenance, and repair
Foster, build, and maintain relationships with vendors and sporting goods companies
Reconcile all shipping and receiving activities within prescribed timelines
Ensure compliance with all NCAA and NESCAC rules relating to equipment operations
Work closely with other departments on campus to affect optimum support
Support special event planning and operations as required
Attend department meetings as necessary
Secondary summer assignment to be determined

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: This position has significant interaction with student athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and administrators.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Operates on courts, turf, grass, gymnasium, and training rooms. General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, movement and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Travel and early morning/evening/weekend work is required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.

Experience with an athletic equipment inventory system a plus
Ability to work a dynamic schedule with frequent evening and weekend hours based on game schedules
Proficiency in Microsoft Office essential
Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with a high level of motivation
Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
