Reporting to and under the direction of the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Student-Athlete Development Coordinator will be responsible for the creation, development, and coordination of the student-athlete development program for 650 student-athletes in 22 sports at the University of Washington. In collaboration with the Student-Athlete Academic Services Staff (SAAS), Athletics Department staff, and campus entities, the Coordinator will ensure student-athletes are provided with relevant support services and programming in the areas of career development, personal development, community service, and leadership.
In conjunction with the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and execution of the comprehensive Student-Athlete Development program for student-athletes.
Create, implement, and communicate the vision and goals of the student-athlete development program annually.
Create and manage portions of the budget annually.
Develop, implement, and evaluate extensive programming in the areas of orientation & transition, career development, personal development, community service, and leadership.
Create needs assessments to determine goals in the areas of total student development.
Develop and implement the curriculum for all cohorts of the Husky Leadership Academy (HLA) annually.
Manage the Husky Leadership Academy budget.
Coordinate and facilitate all presentations for HLA sessions.
Manage the application process and selection for the Husky Leadership Academy
Oversee all logistics for the Husky Leadership Academy including purchasing supplies, designing collateral and marketing materials and developing student leadership workbooks annually.
Serve as a liaison with campus entities in the student development area to promote collaboration and student-athlete integration.
Coordinate and execute personality and career assessments and follow-up educational sessions for student-athletes, coaches, and teams.
Motivate staff, coaches, and student-athletes to achieve goals of the Student-Athlete Development program.
Plan, execute, and teach New Student-Athlete Orientation programs for freshmen and transfer student-athletes each quarter.
Develop, coordinate, and teach all sections of the first-year class (General Studies 105) for student-athletes to be conducted quarterly/annually.
Plan and execute all aspects of annual SAAS special events including Husky Kickoff Barbeque, Dinner with a Dawg, Windermere Cup Community Service event, WSAAC Year End event, and the Graduation Reception.
Establish and maintain a strong campus presence to ensure close working relationships with university staff, faculty, administration, and alumni so that coordination of efforts may take place where appropriate.
Coordinate speakers for various workshop presentations.
Assist with the nomination, completion, and processing of NCAA, Pac-12 and UW awards, postgraduate scholarships, and leadership conferences for student-athletes.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned intern(s).
Serve as lead advisor for the WSAAC committee. Coordinate all meetings, elections, service, projects and events. Coordinate additional staff advisors.
Update and oversee production of the UW Student-Athlete Handbook annually.
Additional duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director – Student Development or the Director of Student-Athlete Development.
Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Sports Management or a related field required. A minimum of two years of experience working in the area of student development, college athletics or academic services, or related field. Proven ability to develop programs and coordinate resources at the college level. Significant understanding of the lives and challenges of student-athletes.
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously and with limited direction and complete projects by established deadlines. Demonstrated work experience with evidence of strong organizational, time management, communication, and supervisory skills. Ability to work with diverse student populations. Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, campus administrators, and staff.
Evening hours required on a weekly basis in addition to occasional weekend hours.
Master’s degree in Education, Sports Management, Counseling or Exercise Science/Leadership strongly preferred. Event planning experience strongly preferred. Student-athlete development experience and experience teaching courses strongly preferred.
