Job Summary: The Executive Director of Development of Intercollegiate Athletics is a senior professional who works collaboratively with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Athletics colleagues, external relations colleagues and University Advancement (UA) to lead specific development funding opportunities of Intercollegiate Athletics as assigned and secure significant philanthropic investments to support them. The primary activity of the Executive Director of Development is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support and the Executive Director of Development's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The Executive Director of Development reports to the Vice Chancellor, University Advancement with a dotted line to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Executive Director of Development is expected to be a highly collaborative colleague with other Development and advancement officers across the campus.

Direct the implementation and coordination of comprehensive athletics development programs by identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting annual, major and planned gifts for Intercollegiate Athletics to meet the philanthropic objectives of Athletics using the policies and procedures established by UA for best practices.
Assist with the recruitment, organization, training and support of volunteers who will assist the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Vice Chancellor, University Advancement in raising funds on behalf of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Work routinely and closely with University Advancement and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics to support Intercollegiate Athletics' fundraising priorities:
Build Intercollegiate Athletics' pipeline of support from alumni, board members, and the corporate sector by:
Conducting at least 12 documented personal appointment contacts, per month Qualifying 40 new major gift prospects through personal appointments, annually Soliciting 24 major gift prospects, annually Conducting 15 stewardship moves annually, including hand delivering stewardship reports Securing $3 million annually in new gifts and commitments for Intercollegiate Athletics
Work with University Advancement, Athletics staff and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, to further identify, assess and prioritize funding opportunities within Intercollegiate Athletics.
Foster successful fundraising in Intercollegiate Athletics by preparing the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and other Athletics staff and coaches to participate routinely and effectively in development activities and prospect appointments.
Consult with individual coaches to ensure that support groups function in an efficient and businesslike manner and in compliance with departmental and University policies and procedures.
Direct Athletics-based programs that encourage relationships with Intercollegiate Athletics' donors, prospects, and alumni.
Work collaboratively with Athletics' marketing, ticketing, communications and events staff in order to advance and align Intercollegiate Athletics' image and reputation with its philanthropic constituencies.
Assist with Athletics' donor relations/stewardship efforts using UA's systems for gift recording, reporting, and acknowledgments.
Create, implement, and evaluate strategies for involving alumni and the alumni relations department in athletics development activities.
Proactively manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects, developing and executing prospect strategies leading to solicitation and philanthropic investment.
Guided by the direction and scope of a prospect's interest, collaborate with various Athletics staff and coaches, and other UCI fundraisers to leverage their maximum philanthropic potential.
Manage relationships with key private foundations by building relationships with UA foundation relations officers, ensure effective and timely grants management and stewardship, and develop and submit written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials.
Collaborate with various UA offices and functions -- including stewardship, research and prospect management, financial services, annual giving, and development to advance these prospect strategies and use the UA prospect management and tracking system.
Participate as directed by the Vice Chancellor, University Advancement and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in development activities on a unit and campus level and serve as a resource to other unit-based development colleagues about Intercollegiate Athletics' fundraising opportunities.
In coordination with University Advancement and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, manage development administration development operation. Responsibilities include:
Prepare annual business plan for Intercollegiate Athletics fundraising.
Develop the annual budget for development operations.
Within the priorities established by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, serve as a clearing a_gent to coaches in reviewing proposals, requests, and applications for gifts in support of specific Intercollegiate Athletic sports programs.
Advise the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics on community matters related to Intercollegiate Athletics programs and services.
Facilitate the submission of major fundraising programs and projects for review and approval by the Priority Planning Committee.
Advise, inform and work with the Vice Chancellor/University Advancement, Chancellor's Office, Associate Vice Chancellor/University Advancement, Directors of Development, and other campus departments.
Participate in the campus prospect management system, development officer forums and University Advancement planning meetings.
Responsible for compliance with all UCI policies and procedures including but not limited to: solicitation and acceptance of gifts, alumni and support group policies, and naming policies.
Serve as chief fundraiser for Athletics and responsible for the direct supervision of three professional staff member within the Intercollegiate Athletics: Major Gifts Officer, Director of Annual Giving and Director of Donor Relations and Special Events.
Work in a fast-paced, results oriented environment with complex and evolving relationships and priorities.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Required: Bachelor's degree and seven to ten years successful professional development and/or fundraising related experience, preferably in higher education OR, any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved. Five years of development experience must have been in major gifts Athletics fundraising. Master's degree preferred. Experience-based knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising for a comprehensive research university Familiarity with Athletics Marketing is required. Strong collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone. Experienced in operating under a prospect moves-management system that utilizes a central database. Self-starter able to secure personal appointments and qualify a significant volume of new prospects. Collaborative in nature knowing that many donors interests involve multiple parts of the university. Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that leverage a relationship-building and moves-management approach leading to successful gift closure. Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments. Ability to work independently with both school and institutional goals in mind. Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible. Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies. Ability to represent the institution professionally, externally and internally. Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials. Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties. Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Apple and Elucian (Advance) or comparable a donor/prospect database system. Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans. Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments. May work long hours to meet fundraising commitments. Local, regional, and some national travel is required.
