The Associate VP/Deputy Athletics Director reports to the Vice President of Development and has a primary reporting line to the Vice President of Athletics of The University of South Florida. This position serves an integral role in the senior leadership of all aspects of the USF Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and its sponsorship of nineteen varsity athletics programs. As the chief athletics fundraiser, the Deputy Athletic Director will work within the guidelines of the USF Foundation to generate necessary revenue for athletics capital projects; develop strategies for the annual solicitation of alumni, parents, friends, staff and faculty for annual gifts to the university; establish strategy and procedures for major gift solicitation efforts; carry a personal portfolio of major/leadership prospects; manage a development department with a professional staff; manage the budget of a development office; and serve on the fundraising management team of the USF Foundation. In addition to the Development responsibilities, this position will be accountable for the progressive strategies and goals and objectives of the Department's key external areas: Ticketing, Marketing and Promotions, Communications, Public Relations, Branding, Creative Campaigns, Trademarks and Licensing, Merchandising and Multi-Media Rights. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing integral direction and leadership of marketing, promotions and creative teams to generate strategic sales and media campaigns to meet revenue goals and initiatives as well as oversight of the Department's communications efforts including public relations, alumni relations, sports information, social media and website. This position serves as the direct liaison to multi-media rights partners; works in conjunction with the university's trademarks and licensing programs; and oversees the third party relationship with apparel and merchandising partners. Frequent travel is required to attend/work athletic events on weekends and nights.
MINIMUM Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and seven years of experience related to development or other appropriate related exempt work experience.
PREFERRED: Prefer development/fundraising work experience in an institution of higher education, preferably in intercollegiate athletics. Prefer a minimum of 3 years of experience in supervising/managing fundraising professionals. Prefer a minimum of 10 years of intercollegiate athletics administration experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING: Major gift fundraising in an institution of higher education; ability to lead strategic planning with Vice Presidents of Development and Athletics; the ability to relate well to a wide variety of audiences, working knowledge of management practices, budgeting and other fiscal practices; strong collaboration, organization and teamwork skills; and a solid working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics.
