Keene State College invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Athletics. The College is seeking a dynamic and experienced athletics administrator who will provide strategic and operational leadership to the NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics and recreation programs. The successful candidate will be a visionary who will build upon Keene State College’s success as one of the premier public athletics departments in New England, winning 16 straight Little East Conference Commissioner’s Cups and consistently ranking in the top 80 in the NACDA Director’s Cup Standings.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Athletics will be responsible for planning, implementing, and administering a program of intercollegiate athletics and campus recreation, consisting of 18 sports classified in Division III of the NCAA with an annual operating budget of $2.3 million.
• Provide leadership and supervision to athletics department personnel, including administrative staff, head coaches of 18 sport programs the recreational sports director and staff, sports information staff, and athletic training staff. Oversee the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. • Ensure and maintain a respectful, supportive environment conducive to the student’s athletic, academic, and personal development and achievement. • Represent the College’s athletic program regarding community outreach events, marketing and promotion efforts, and fundraising activities in collaboration with the Advancement Division. • Collaborate with Advancement staff, as appropriate, to actively promote the athletics program and to solicit external funding through advertising, stadium signage, donations and grants. • Develop and manage all departmental, team and special events budgets. • Prepare and present budget proposals to student assembly for endorsement. • Establish priorities and provide vision for new facilities construction and renovation of current facilities. • Assure compliance with all NCAA, Little East Conference and Title IX rules and regulations; maintain active participation in Little East Conference and NCAA meetings, regional seminars on Title IX/Gender Equity and NCAA rules compliance seminars. • Lead and manage the coordination of internal and external operations related to scheduling, travel, competition and event, and facilities use. • Serve as Little East liaison for assigned sport; serve on national and regional committees. • Demonstrate a continued commitment to meaningful collaboration, diversity and the ability to think creatively to ensure that the purpose of the intercollegiate athletics programs remains consistent with the mission of the College. • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required: Master’s Degree and five years of experience in higher education; NCAA athletics administration or related leadership; knowledge and practice of facility and programmatic risk management; demonstrated administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills; and demonstrated proficiency with computer applications including MS Office, NCAA Compliance Assistant, and other software programs.
Additional Desirable Qualifications: A terminal degree or J.D/L.L.B. degree; NCAA intercollegiate athletic administration experience; demonstrated experience with budgets, compliance, fundraising, and student athlete development.
