Overview: Working at the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Deputy Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Department. This position oversees the internal organization of the department, ensuring consistency with the overall mission, goals and objectives of the University, the Mountain West Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Along with the Director of Athletics, the Deputy Director has signature authority in the absence of the Director of Athletics and acts on his/her behalf in matters relating to the department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the oversight of internal units and selected sports service areas including the athletics business office, ticket operations, external communications, facilities, third-party contracts (Concessionaire Bulldog Shop, and Learfield/ Bulldog Sports Properties), student-athlete academic services, sports medicine/training, and strength and conditioning. The Deputy Director serves as the liaison to selected capital projects and, when directed, participates in fund raising activities and donor cultivation. The Deputy Director also provides leadership, direction and supervision to all sports supervisors and several high profile Head Coaches.
The Deputy Director must possess an energetic leadership style and, in concert with the Director of Athletics, have the ability to make decisions, problem solve and recommend long-range fiscal and operational plans.
Compensation: The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.
Responsible for the internal operation of the Athletics Department and represents the Director of Athletics in his absence.
Responsible for the fiscal administration of the approved annual budget including accurate and timely submission of expenditure reporting in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ensure timely review by sports supervisors of monthly financial statements and dissemination to applicable unit areas.
Responsible for maintaining and updating all department policies and procedures, and oversees reporting to external agencies.
Work closely with Human Resources on all recruitments, evaluations, as well as any employee relations matters.
Serve as the primary custodian for all Athletics Department contracts, agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs).
Assist with the assurance that all assigned activities are operated in compliance with NCAA, Mountain West Conference and University rules and regulations. Report any and all violations, or suspected violations to the Director of Athletics.
Assist the Director of Athletics with the development of a strategic plan.
Provide leadership in assessment of NCAA and conference proposed legislation.
Provide oversight of the NCAA and conference violation, enforcement and reinstatement program.
With the Director of Athletics and Chair to develop agendas and materials for monthly Student Athletic Advisory Council meetings.
Provide oversight of the department's student-athlete code of conduct and liaison with the Dean of Students, Campus Police Chief, and Code of Conduct Committee. Maintain files and monitor corrective measures of involved student-athletes.
With Assistant AD for Sports Medicine assure programming in athletic training, strength and conditioning and nutrition are meeting needs of sports programs and student-athletes.
Work with the Associate AD for Internal Operations to ensure home events, special events and facility rental are successfully executive The Deputy Directly works closely with management personnel from Facilities, Development, and Operations
Provide direct supervision of senior staff, sport supervisors, and select head coaches as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Required Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a Division I collegiate athletics program
Education: Master's degree from a four-year college or university
