Academic Services for Student-Athletes is seeking an experienced advisor to oversee all aspects of academic administration for football, including acting as the primary advisor for the football student-athletes. Under general supervision and guidance of the Director of Academic Services, this person would advise a diverse population of students in regards to their academic planning and progress; interpret and explain University and NCAA academic policies and procedures to assist students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation and a career; and share a supervisory role of the football academic staff. This staff member will also serve as the main liaison to the Football Academic Coordinator.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, Days, availability to occasionally work nights and weekends
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, the following:
Meets with students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements, major exploration, course planning and registration, transfer credit or advanced degree requirements. 2. Facilitates students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. 3. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, specialized tutoring, extended or intensive assistance with career decisions or similar needs. 4. Monitors academic performance, student compliance with academic requirements, progress toward degree and assists in the certification of eligibility for each student-athlete. 5. Communicates with coaches and sports supervisor on a regular basis to keep them informed of students’ progress and any issues that arise. 6. Maintains students’ academic files that include a record of the advising activity that takes place during each visit. 7. Meet with prospects and parents during recruiting visits to discuss the goals, vision, and philosophy of the academic support program. 8. Work as a team member with Academic Services staff to provide coordinated services for student athletes ensuring the highest levels of customer service. 9. Responsible for the daily oversight of football academics and for coordinating all academic information and procedures as they relate to football.
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency required. Knowledge of NCAA rules, standards and requirements as they pertain to academic eligibility. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with diverse populations, including students, faculty, and support staff.
Master’s degree and at least three years of experience as an advisor or academic counselor and demonstrated successful experience working with academically under-prepared, high-profile student-athletes at the Division I level; knowledge of NCAA rules, with a proficiency in Bylaw 14.
