Serves as Director of Academic Support and a member of the Executive Leadership team within the Rankin Smith Academic Center for Student Athletes at the University of Georgia. Responsibilities include the oversight of learning support programs for student-athletes, coordination of all academic support services (learning specialist, mentors, structured study, and tutorial), coordinate programming to facilitate support for student athletes with academic accommodations (include identification of students with learning disabilities, registration with the campus Disability Resource Center, communication of accommodations, creation of specialized remediation programs, and developing individualized academic support plans based on student needs), coordinate training programs to aid in the professional development of academic support personnel, and assess overall effectiveness of all academic support programming in the Rankin Smith Academic Center. The candidate will also be responsible for establishing programs and protocols to ensure compliance with NCAA, SEC, and institutional rules and regulations pertaining to the areas of academic honesty, academic fraud, and academic support for student athletes. Supervisor for all full-time learning specialists and other academic support staff within the tutoring/mentoring services program for student-athletes.
Responsible for independent determination of all academic planning and support services for student-athletes at UGA.
Serve in a leadership role as a member of the Executive Team in the Rankin Smith Academic Center.
Supervise eight full-time Learning Specialists. Responsible for hiring, managing, and evaluating each staff member. Lead weekly meetings with Learning Specialists for planning and program evaluation purposes.
Participate in recruiting events, including evenings and weekends throughout the year.
Other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director of Academic Services.
Participation in opportunities to keep up with national industry trends.
The position requires the ability to lead staff who independently monitor students’ progress and coordinate their academic support schedules that include learning specialist, mentor/tutorial sessions, and any specific academic skills development programs. Communication with coaches, students, staff, parents, administrators, and professors is a necessity. Ability to provide independent academic support to students’ courses and progress towards graduation on a daily basis.
