The Assistant Director of Compliance reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and is responsible for assisting with the education and enforcement of NCAA, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University rules and regulations for student-athletes, coaches, staff members, and donors.
Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Assist student-athletes, coaches and staff who visit the Athletics Compliance Office, complete necessary NCAA and Big Ten Conference forms, provide NCAA rule interpretations and provide approval for activities where applicable.
Assist with educational efforts for student-athletes, coaches, staff and boosters as needed; present at rules education meetings.
Coordinate institutional monitoring program for assigned NCAA bylaw areas.
Oversee reviews of initial eligibility and maintain the prospective student-athlete admissions database, running reports as needed.
Assist with academic eligibility certification process for current student-athletes.
Maintain student-athlete files/records for the Athletics Compliance Office, ensuring that all required NCAA and Big Ten documentation is up-to-date and preserved according to the institution’s document retention policy.
Complete and submit requests for waivers of NCAA and Big Ten rules, where necessary.
Travel with the institution's sports programs to select away and postseason competition, as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience
Minimum 1-year experience in a collegiate athletics department as a coach or administrator
Professional verbal and written communication skills
Ability to teach diverse groups of individuals about NCAA compliance issues
Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment and manage stressful situations
Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines
Strong organizational and time management skills
Master’s degree or higher
Experience working in an athletics compliance office
Familiarity with the financial aid and admission processes at a university level
Experience with Compliance Assistant, JumpForward and Teamworks software
Knowledge of rules and regulations Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University
