Duke University’s goal is to be a leader in college athletics digital media – the Assistant Director of Digital Media/Social Media and Internet Operations will help carry out that mission. This person will organize and manage the day-to-day operations of the official website of Duke Athletics, GoDuke.com, and assist in the execution of the department’s social media strategy.
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Digital Strategy, and working closely with the Duke Marketing, Promotions, Sports Information and Video Services departments, primary responsibilities include:
**Oversee a year-round auction, featuring autographed items and special ticket packages, including the acquisition of all auction items, the promotion of available auction items, the finalization of the sale and the distribution of all items.
**Update the website regularly with accurate and timely content, and present it in a creative way.
**Routinely monitor the website to ensure all content is presented in the most effective way possible and that all website functions are operating correctly
**Coordinate the video streaming feed of live events to be shown on GoDuke.com
**Handle requests from all DUAA departments, including Sports Information, Duke Marketing, Promotions, Academic Services, Athletic Training Services, Strength & Conditioning, Student-Athlete Development and others concerning updating information on GoDuke.com and providing new material
**Design and build specialty pages for GoDuke.com, including but not limited to historical pages, landing pages for promotional activities, facilities pages, game day central pages, etc.
**Work with the Human Resources department to maintain and update staff directory on GoDuke.com
**Set up live events for all sports when applicable (stats, video, audio, etc.)
**Assist with Email Marketing to fans concerning auction items and general releases
**Manage the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms for several varsity sports
** Communicate with support staff and creative content team for assigned sports to facilitate the needs of those programs and coordinate efforts to help broadcast their respective messages through social media.
**Analyze social media trends, and track new technologies and innovations to determine how Duke Athletics can achieve the greatest return on its social media investments.
**Monitor Duke-related buzz in social media (positive or negative) and consult with external affairs group to produce the necessary response.
**Educate Student-Athletes with best practices in social media; work with Compliance to ensure adherence to NCAA rules.
**Track and monitor success of social media initiatives, provide counsel to improve and integrate initiatives into broader strategies for athletics communications.
**Attend all home games (and select away games) to provide enhanced coverage for assigned teams.
**Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated technical knowledge; a grasp of existing and emerging technologies; a general understanding of marketing and promotional theories and practices; and outstanding communication and organizational skills. Basic HTML and graphic design skills and an extensive knowledge of existing and emerging social media platforms are necessary for success in this position. A working knowledge of editing software (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc…) is preferred.
Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree
At least one year managing and developing web sites, preferably with a college or professional sports team.
At least one year working experience with social media in a professional environment preferably with a college or professional sports team
