In support of this mission, Longwood University invites outstanding candidates to apply for a full-time position as Assistant Director of Academic Services. This person will be responsible for providing resources and individual guidance to student-athletes to enhance organizational, study, and communication skills, and may also help with mild mental issues (stress/anxiety, etc.) and refer to the counseling center as needed. This person will assist with the transition to college and help student-athletes balance academics and athletics. Longwood University, founded in 1839, is a public liberal arts university in Farmville, Virginia, roughly one hour from Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg. Longwood competes in the Big South Conference for NCAA Division I Athletics.
Monitoring student-athlete academic progress and NCAA eligibility
Coordinate the tutoring and study table programs
Coordinate the new student transition program and other life skills programming
Coordinate book purchasing for student-athlete book scholar athletes
Prepare academic reports and program assessments
Assist with student-athlete advisory committee
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred
Former student-athletes or individuals with previous experience in intercollegiate athletics are strongly encouraged to apply
Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends
Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
