This position works with the Student-Athlete Services team to provide academic support to assigned teams. He/she also assists coaches, athletic administrators, university administrators, and faculty with any and all concerns as they relate to the academic needs and overall development of the student-athlete.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Coordinate the academic support program/services for assigned varsity teams. This includes, but is not limited to: communicating with faculty via telephone, email and in person regarding student-athletes’ academic progress; monitoring student-athletes’ continuing eligibility and satisfactory academic progress; recommending effective learning strategies to enhance student-athletes’ academic skill set; communicating with coaching staff on an as needed basis; maintaining weekly mentor meetings with student-athletes in academic jeopardy; assisting student-athletes with course selection and registration; evaluating student-athletes’ progress assessments. Work with the Assistant AD for Academics and SAS to oversee SAS graduate assistants who assist with academic advising, tutor coordination, study hall, and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Coordinate travel letter correspondence for assigned sport, report to faculty on SAs missing class due to injury, illness, surgery, etc. as needed. Attend scheduled SAS staff meetings and be part of the SAS team. Monitor student-athletes with diagnosed learning disabilities and assist with accessing accommodations approved through the Office of Accessibility Services. Monitor evening and Sunday study hall for freshmen and select upperclassmen as scheduled. Perform checks for class attendance as scheduled. Manage tutoring assignments for assigned teams in coordination with SAS staff tutor coordinator. Attend weekly academic meetings with the coaching staff to report out on any issues relevant to student-athletes’ academic success. Occasional travel with team as needed.
Assist the sport programs in talking with prospective student-athletes, parents, and/or guardians about the academic services provided at BGSU at scheduled recruiting functions.
Represent the Office of Student-Athlete Services on University Committees, and communicate NCAA and MAC rules and regulations on satisfactory progress and eligibility with college academic advisors and support staff. Address university staff and faculty members concerns related to student-athlete issues. Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, in counseling, education, sport management, college student personnel, or a related field. Successful candidate must have Bachelor's degree conferred at the time of application. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with the university’s vehicle use policy.
The following experience is required:
1- 2 Years’ experience working with student-athletes and diverse groups of people. Previous experience as an Athletic Academic Advisor or working in Student-Athlete Services office preferred. Graduate Assistantship experience accepted
Additional Salary Information: Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level 352. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
