The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance is responsible for assisting the Vice-President for Intercollegiate Athletics in the fulfillment of the Athletic Department’s mission of efficiently conducting the business of NCAA compliance as directed by the president of the university, the NCAA and the WAC Conference. The primary scope of the job responsibilities is in the area of rules education to the various constituencies interacting with the institution and the athletic department regarding NCAA and conference rules and regulations, taking the lead on issues related to all sports programs, and educating and monitoring student-athlete issues.
Develop, maintain, analyze, and oversee the implementation of the institution's rules education program for the following constituencies: coaching staff members, athletic administrators (internal and external support), other institutional staff, boosters and booster organizations, student-athletes and their parents and/or guardians, prospective student-athletes and their parents and/or guardians, high school/junior college personnel, student support groups, the local business community, agents, financial advisors, and any other group as needed. Attend and participate in NCAA and WAC rules education, monthly meetings and annual compliance workshops.
Interpret NCAA and Conference (WAC) rules for all constituencies and assist in developing strategies to implement rules or rule changes as permitted. Communicate directly with the the NCAA and WAC regarding interpretive issues. Prepare and/or assist in preparation of various NCAA and WAC waiver applications regarding initial-eligibility, medical hardships, extension of eligibility, incidental expenses and other general administrative regulations. Interpret all aspects of initial and continuing eligibility in regards to practice, financial aid, and competition.
Oversee compliance monitoring activities including but not limited to all recruiting related activities. Administer on- and off-campus recruiting monitoring, including general recruiting operations, off-campus recruiting, contact and evaluations, official and unofficial visits and telephone calls. Approve and monitor all prospective student-athlete official and unofficial visits. Work closely with academic staff on an ongoing basis regarding eligibility status of prospects, transfers and current athletes. Investigate, prepare documentation, and report violations to the appropriate sport coach or staff member, student-athlete or administrator. Monitor all NCAA playing and practice season legislation and limitations.
Compliance Office Policies
Develop, organize, and implement professional sports education activities and agent interviews as required and permitted under State of Texas guidelines. Research, find, and work with any outside sport advisement firms.
Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athletes: conduct, appearance, road games, punctuality and other areas as deemed appropriate. Maintains awareness of and supports the diversity and inclusion initiatives of the Athletics Department.
Supervise, delegate, train & evaluate graduate assistants and/or departmental staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of five years of experience in NCAA compliance at the Division I level.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated superior knowledge of NCAA rules. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs. Effective communication, presentation, organizational, supervisory, and team building skills required.
