To serve as learning specialist in Intercollegiate Athletics Student Services at the University of Texas at Austin.
Designs and implements individualized academic support and structured study plans for assigned student-athletes.
Provides instruction in areas of academic skill and strategy weakness, including reading comprehension, note taking, test taking, time management, study skills, concentration, memory, motivation, faculty interaction, classroom engagement, and other learning strategies.
May also provide supplemental instruction in specific courses as needed.
Communicates frequently, effectively, and consistently with key Student Services staff (e.g. Academic Coordinators, Director of Learning Services, Associate Athletics Director for Student Services) regarding both general and specific aspects of student-athlete academic development progress, concerns or recommendations.
Assists with the screening process of student-athletes for learning or attention needs assessment.
Reviews and interprets psycho educational reports, if applicable, to provide customized learning strategies and to assist student-athletes in understanding assessment results, implementing report recommendations, and utilizing necessary accommodations.
Assists student-athletes with appropriate use of assistive learning technology (e.g. text to speech software, tablet applications, etc.).
Maintains comprehensive and confidential records.
Works as a positive contributor to a team of professionals who are dedicated to the academic experience of student-athletes.
Maintains compliance with University, NCAA, and FERPA regulations at all times, including upholding the highest standards of academic integrity.
Other related functions as assigned within the Learning Services program, including all aspects of the tutor program, study hall supervision, test proctoring, academic screening and assessment, learning profiles, etc.

Master's degree in education, special education, school psychology, clinical psychology, curriculum and instruction, human development, adult education or in related field. Three years of experience teaching or performing clinical work in the field of learning services. Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of learning assessment, learning strategies instruction, motivation enhancement, and study skills development techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of education-impacting disabilities and evidence-based intervention strategies. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Current knowledge of relevant NCAA, and Big 12 Conference regulations, and federal and state laws pertaining to higher education and disability rights. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Five years of experience teaching in education or performing clinical work in the field of learning services. Experience and demonstrated success in teaching learning strategies and study skills, and developing academic intervention strategies for Division I student-athletes. Knowledge of and experience with assistive technologies to enhance learning. Formal training and demonstrated effectiveness in working with individuals with specific education-impacting disabilities including ADHD, learning disorders, communication disorders, and other processing disorders. Familiarity with academic support services for Division I student-athletes. Experience managing personnel. Experience providing direction for instructional support and collaborating with educational aides or paraprofessionals.
