Manage month-end, quarterly, and annual financial close process and reconciliations. Coordinate preparation of financial reporting required by Athletic Department Leadership Team, University Regents, NCAA, and any other regulatory agencies. Provide leadership and effective management to create a high performance team.
Supervise several Business Office staff members
Manage month-end, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
Prepare and review monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
Coordinate preparation of consolidated and unit level monthly budget-to-actual reports
Coordinate financial reporting required by University Regents, University Office of Business and Finance, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, and any other regulatory agencies
Coordinate preparation of external audit materials and aspects of external financial reporting
Manage preparation of annual operating budget
Assist with monitoring and enhancing accounting procedures, policies, and internal controls
Perform all other duties as assigned by Athletics Chief Financial Officer
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience in a public accounting firm or accounting department of a large and complex organization
Strong technical background in GAAP accounting and financial reporting
Strong leadership skills and experience leading full time staff as a direct supervisor
Experience with automated financial systems, query tools to extract data from systems, and proficiency with administrative and financial information systems and various software applications
Experience with implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls
Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze, monitor, and evaluate all financial aspects of the Athletic Department budget
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment
Strong organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills
High level of personal integrity and ethics
Public accounting experience at Big 4 or regional accounting firm
Experience in intercollegiate athletics or university setting
Experience with GASB accounting
Experience utilizing PeopleSoft general ledger software and Business Objects data warehouse querying software
