Schedule: Part-time; Primarily evening and weekend hours during the academic year
The Head Women’s Softball Coach will oversee the intercollegiate Women’s Softball program at Franciscan University of Steubenville. The position’s most important duties include instructing student-athletes on the rules and fundamentals of the sport during practice (both in team and individual settings), preparing the student-athletes for competition, and coaching on game days. The Head Coach is responsible for supporting the academic and spiritual development of each student athlete. The employee will also engage in other secondary duties as described below.
Game day strategy and coaching.
Plan and execute practices and training programs, including individual and team film study.
Specific position/individual athlete instruction.
Promote the academic development of each student athlete and team culture of academic excellence.
Promote the spiritual development of each student athlete and team culture where the Catholic faith and Christian moral principles are integrated into the daily activities.
Learn and comply with all relevant NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
Coordinate with other Athletics staff members and other university departments on logistical issues such as contest scheduling, team travel, field/venue maintenance, and game day preparation.
Communicate with prospective student athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations; coordinate all recruitment activities with the Admissions office.

Must understand, support and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following:
Previous high school head coaching experience preferred. College level experience desired.
Minimum of 3 years as Head Coach at the high school level or Assistant Coach experience at the college level.
Technical/Functional Skills: Actively seeks out ways to practice and continually improve the required skills or knowledge.
Verbal Communications: Very good communicator. Uses effective speaking and listening techniques to ensure clear and actionable communications.
Developing Self: Continually assesses one’s skills and identifies areas that can be further improved.
Decision Quality: Effectively blends analysis, experience and intuition in the decision-making process.
Dealing with Ambiguity: Works well in situations where there is no single right answer.
Basic computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel).
Effectively sequence development skills in the context of a single practice.
Understanding of basic field maintenance of the softball field.
Must be able to endure long periods of time coaching in both practice and game settings.
Must be able to drive a 12-passenger van.
