Graduate Assistant/Internships, Sports Information
The Assistant Sports Information Director reports to the Sports Information Director (SID) and assists with all aspects of media coverage for the College's 23 NCAA Division III teams. The Assistant SID must be committed to excellence and to advancing the Department of Athletics through a variety of media outlets. The Assistant SID will:
Athletic Communications/Content Creation (60%) -Develop and implement strategies to increase awareness of the department's achievements -Create, research, write, and edit publications and web content for the Colby-Sawyer sports programs -Work closely with the SID to issue press releases, respond to all media inquiries, and maintain statistical records for the athletic programs -Design and produce game programs, conduct audio and video interviews, and manage the athletic website content to create a positive public message and image for the department -Attend and cover home games, provide results to the media, and post appropriate recaps and game notes on the website in accordance with college approved style and policy -Work closely with the GNAC and the NCAA to submit statistics, nominate student-athletes for weekly and seasonal awards, and provide miscellaneous aid in order for the conference and national offices to maintain their respective websites
Athletic Department Administrative Assistance (30%) -Hire, train, assign, and supervise a sizeable student-worker group to helps with game day operations -Serve as the point person for Sidearm Sports and the GNAC Conference -Work collaboratively with selected campus units, constituents, and media outlets to disseminate pertinent information in a timely fashion -Serve as the official statistician and press box/table manager for all applicable home athletics events
Other Duties as Assigned (10%) -Encourage and create an atmosphere of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect among the staff, coaches and student-athletes within the program -Other duties as assigned by department's senior leadership team
This position is a part of the NCAA’s Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant program. A minimum of two (2) years of athletics management, leadership, and administrative experience is preferred. Comprehensive understanding of multiple facets of NCAA athletics required. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated excellence with interpersonal communications (written and oral) skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is necessary. Ideal candidate will have excellent branding skills, strong strategic thinking and problem solving abilities and experience with several social media outlets. Attention to detail and accuracy; customer service oriented and able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, coaches and campus and external entities. Must be comfortable working in team environment with a positive attitude and sense of humor.
