Essential Functions Function: To provide leadership, management and administration of the UTSA athletic academic services program.
Scope: Responsible for the organization, management, administration and success of the academic support unit.
Management of Student Athlete Academic Center: Provide leadership in the administration of all aspects of James Bodenstedt Athletic Academic Center, including management, strategic planning, and policy development for a comprehensive academic support program for student athletes in 17 Division I sport programs supporting academic success and progress, retention and graduation.
Maintain knowledge of and compliance with NCAA, C-USA, and institutional rules. Support the highest ideals of academic integrity with teams, coaches and institutional personnel.
Coordinate the hiring and supervision, direction, development and evaluation of academic services staff consisting of full-time academic counselors, interns, graduate assistants and learning specialists.
Collaborate with the UTSA Student Success program to ensure academic services and tutoring services are provided efficiently.
Cooperate with college advisors, various university personnel and athletic coaches to ensure student-athletes' satisfactory academic progress. Resolve academic issues efficiently, effectively and ethically through appropriate consultation, analysis and/or action within the structure of the University.
Serve as a member of the Athletic Department Executive Team. Provide leadership, direction and planning for athletic department initiatives at the direction of the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics.
Create and provide reports and written data regarding student-athlete recruitment, enrollment, retention and graduation rates.
Provide oversight of all NCAA academic eligibility processes and certification, including continuing eligibility and review of transcript evaluations. Collaborate with compliance to ensure integrity of all processes.
Serve as the liaison between the athletic department and the Registrar's office for NCAA Eligibility and Certification.
Ensure the gathering and entry of athletic department APR, GSR and Federal Graduation Rate data; provide data, projections and planning to athletic administrators and coaches to meet NCAA requirements and university and department goals.
Serve as the sport administrator for assigned sports.
Serve as the liaison between the Athletic Department and the Office of Admissions and collaborate with coaches and student-athletes to ensure submission of applications, compliance with all NCAA, Conference and University rules and other admission requirements.
Serve as the liaison for the Athletic Department with Housing and Dining Services, assisting coaches and student-athletes.
Provide information to coaches and recruits on official and unofficial visits, as needed.
Identify and nominate student-athletes for awards, honors and/or scholarships, as needed.
Perform additional duties as required.
Represent UTSA athletics at local, regional and national conferences, meetings and events.
Associate Athletic Director: Three years of professional experience in higher education athletics academic services.
Associate Athletics Director: Bachelor's Degree in Educational Policy/Administration, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.
Senior Associate Athletic Director: Five years of professional experience in higher education athletics academic services.
Senior Associate Athletics Director: Master's Degree in Educational Policy/Administration, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.
Knowledge of counseling, admissions, transfer and recruitment procedures and policies.
Knowledge of NCAA, University, and Athletic department academic policies and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Associate Athletic Director: Two years of experience in intercollegiate athletic advising director position. Professional experience in higher education athletics academic services at a NCAA Division I institution.Direct experience working with admissions and initial and continuing eligibility.
Senior Associate Athletic Director: Three years of experience in intercollegiate athletic advising director position. Working Conditions This position will be primarily located:
On-campus (Individuals that primarily work on campus)
Normal office conditions.
Some evening and weekend work may be required.
