Job Duties The Director of Student-Athlete Development/Life Skills will be responsible for the creation, development, coordination, and oversight of the comprehensive Life Skills program for student-athletes in all sports at East Carolina University. In collaboration with Athletics Department staff and campus entities, the director will ensure student-athletes are provided with relevant support services and programming in areas such as career development, personal development, health and wellness, community service, and leadership.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Administration & SWA, duties and responsibilities for the Director of Student-Athlete Development/Life Skills include, but are not limited to, the following:
Create a comprehensive and strategic program that provides student-athletes with tangible skills required to be lifelong leaders
Oversee and facilitate the Student Athlete Advisory Committee
Research, organize, plan, promote, and evaluate educational and informational workshops covering topics such as career services, leadership and personal development, communication skills, ATOD, and nutrition.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with campus departments such as the Career Center, Campus Recreation and Wellness, Center for Counseling and Student Development, and Student Health to provide Life Skills services to Student Athletes
Assist in development and execution of NIL education for student-athletes
Organize and track Community Service Outreach Programs
Assist with the nomination, completion, and processing of NCAA, AAC, and ECU awards, postgraduate scholarships, and leadership conferences for the student-athletes
Develop, implement, and maintain Life Skills social media accounts
Attend various recruiting events, team meetings, and university and department orientations
Plan and execute the Goldspy’s Award Program for student-athletes
Build quality relationships; work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, Pirate Club and University staff, students, outside event contacts and all constituencies and stakeholders on all levels, including face-to-face, phone, and electronic communications.
Abide by all written policies and procedures of ECU, the Department of Athletics, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and all applicable conferences or associations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Administration & SWA
Nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and travel may be required in the performance of duties.
Coordinate the Athletics Leadership Living Learning Community, including teaching COAD 1000.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Sensitivity and experience working with populations that reflect cultural, academic, socioeconomic and ethnic diversity
Excellent communication skills
Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Relevant experience in the area of life skills program development with collegiate student-athletes preferred.
