James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Facilities and Events within the Athletics Department. This is a full-time position with benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the game manager for assigned athletic home competitions. Perform duties such as enforce health, fire safety and other facility regulations, perform crowd control and ensure safety of patrons and game personnel.
Serve as the event manager, or appoint wage or student designee, and provide oversight of planning logistics and site preparedness for assigned special events occurring within athletic venues. Specifically the Atlantic Union Bank Center, Bridgeforth Stadium, Godwin Hall, Sentara Park, Hillside Tennis Courts, and Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Assist with scheduling of athletic facilities for all events and activities.
Coordinate all Event Staffing at assigned sports and special events. Coordinate with service providers (campus and contractors) and/or assign operational support for both athletics and special events including but not limited to parking services, police, concessions, A/V contractor, medical, clock operators, ball persons, housekeeping, ticket takers and ushers.
Work with the Athletics Business Office to capture all expenses and revenues from hosting special events.
Develop and implement parking plans/procedures for assigned sports and venues.
Oversight of the Athletics student building manager program.
Serve as department liaison of all equipment rentals (staging, tents, chairs, etc.) including submission for stage, tent, and excavation permits.
Serve on Event Management Planning Committee. Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, CAA and NCAA rules.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Prior experience working in College Athletics in a game operations/event management capacity
Ability to work and thrive in a team setting and in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to provide coverage at competitions and at special events
Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills
Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail
Previous supervisory experience at any level
Prior experience in multipurpose arena operations
Prior experience with recruiting and training student employees and interns
Prior experience with coordinating and organizing event staff
