Job Title: Assistant Director of Championships and Alliances, Branding and Fan Events
Job Overview: As part of the Championships and Alliances group, the branding, fan engagement and community relations unit provides branding and event support for all 90 NCAA Championships and its more than 480,000 student-athletes. Through partnership with other national office groups and with the NCAA membership, the unit delivers a full-range of expertise including brand strategy and design, ancillary event execution, in-game production and promotional activation, community relations and corporate relationships. The assistant director of championships and alliances, branding will develop and implement strategies to integrate the NCAA brand into promotions, ancillary and special events, and messaging and visual presentation. This individual will inform, educate and promote the NCAA brand attributes and messages to internal and external audiences. This individual will work to develop the staff through strong leadership, strategic planning and clear expectations in a professional environment of teamwork and collaboration.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide overall creative direction on NCAA championship materials through collaboration and in-depth communication with national office staff and NCAA membership groups.
- Responsible for management of assigned budget.
- Management of all phases related to select championships’ fan events, including vendor agreements, day to day communication, implementation, monitoring, feedback, etc.
- Onsite management of assigned fan engagement and/or community activities at select championships and ancillary events.
- Collaborate on annual foundational look for championships to provide a consistent look and feel across 90 Championships.
- Collaborate with championships and alliances colleagues to develop branding, signage and décor plans and fan event experiences available to attendees and general public.
- Collaborate with corporate relations staff to provide opportunities to NCAA Champions and Partners and optimize resources they have available.
- Collaborate with various external partners such as corporate partners, branding and event suppliers to create a better, more enjoyable fan event.
- Provide support to national office groups by ensuring that individual collateral materials and messages integrate Association messages.
- Enhance the visual impact of NCAA events via membership activation around championships, special events and NCAA programming. Pursue opportunities to provide resources to the NCAA membership as a means to enhance the NCAA as an Association, while also enhancing individual member schools and conferences.
- Collaborate with corporate relationships group to identify activation opportunities and deliverables for Corporate Champions and Partners as part of the CBS/Turner agreement.
- Actively engage and participate in department’s initiatives leading by example of the national office values. Serve as secondary staff liaison with Source One Digital for 87 NCAA Championships. Aid in the coordination and supervision efficient management and distribution of basic and custom signage for all NCAA championships.
- Collaborate with NCAA licensing internal staff to address logo and trademark issues from vendors and the membership to determine current and future strategies for use of NCAA marks.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (required). Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum five to seven years’ progressive experience within the sports industry, creative agency, brand management, event production or a national organization (required). Agency experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in contract supervision and budget administration (required).
- Client service familiarity or experience.
- Project/program management experience required
- Proven understanding of strategic planning and positioning (required).
- Experience managing and supporting third party vendors and stakeholders (required).
- Proven strong staff leadership and project management skills (required).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines (required).
- Experience in committee and project team decision-making processes (required).
- Strong intuitive and reasoning skills (preferred).
- This position will require up to 30% travel.
- This position will be based in Indianapolis.
- All national office staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. As a new hire, you will be required to be fully vaccinated within 8 weeks from acceptance of offer and you will be required to show proof of that vaccination.
