Under general direction, the Senior Academic Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of specific duties as related to the academic progress of student-athletes for assigned sports. The position serves as a central resource and support to student-athletes on areas of curriculum, academic requirements, and satisfactory progress. The Advisor maintains compliance with university rules and regulations. Responsibilities include implementing academic support programs for the student; providing one-on-one learning skills strategies; identifying individuals' need for tutoring assistance; serving as liaison to academic advisors; and monitoring individual and group levels of academic performance. Additionally the Senior Advisor serves as an instructor for a one hour University core credit course, updates the student-athlete handbook annually, leads a student athlete orientation session, and assists with career services.
Job Responsibilities: Serve as the primary Academic Advisor for Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Men’s and Women's Cross Country and Track and field, Spirit Groups *Send out progress reports and travel letters for all student-athletes * Create and maintain a master student-athlete roster and code each student-athlete appropriately * Serve on committees as assigned including the Advising Leadership Committee and the SLU 101 Committee *Hire, train, and supervise athletic study hall monitors and tutors *Schedule tutoring services for certain sports including men’s basketball *Serve as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee liaison (SAAC) *Oversee the Student Athlete Mentor Program *Utilize the Compliance Assistance Program *Serve as the event coordinator for the Academic Excellence Night and the Straight A Celebration for Athletics *Serve as an instructor for a one hour University core credit course *Assist with career development and life skills services* Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner* Performs other duties as assigned
