Wesleyan University is seeking applicants for the adjunct faculty position of Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving and Aquatics Director. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, organizing and administering all aspects of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving programs, including practice planning, scheduling, arranging for travel, recruiting, supervising an assistant coach, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Aquatics Director responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the pool, assisting with maintenance of pool equipment, and overseeing the training, certification and supervision of lifeguards. The successful candidate will also be expected to design and implement effective fundraising initiatives for the program.
Duties will also include the teaching of for-credit, physical education skills courses. Also, the successful candidate must adhere to University, NESCAC and NCAA Division III regulations. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly, and has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body. This is an adjunct faculty multi-year appointment beginning on July 1, 2023.
Bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree in a sports related field is preferred. Candidates should have significant experience in the coaching of swimming and diving at the college, secondary or club level. The ability to mentor students in a very challenging academic environment is an important qualification, as well as the ability to recruit and coach highly competitive athletes from diverse backgrounds.
