Basic Function:
Responsible for providing academic and vocational advising services to a specific segment of student-athletes in the department of athletics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides academic support as necessary.
Provides assistance to coaching staff in the recruitment of student-athletes.
Responsible for reviewing academic records and monitoring academic progress of student- athletes for respective sports.
Updates coaches on academic progress of student-athletes for respective sports.
Develops academic assistance and development programs to meet the needs of individual student- athletes.
Assists with interviewing, hiring, and instruction of mentors/tutors in mentoring/tutoring methods and procedures.
Assists with scheduling and coordinating mentoring/tutoring activities and study hall.
Confers with faculty regarding applicable student-athletes’ class attendance records and academic progress.
Maintains thorough knowledge of and adheres to all applicable University, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Assists with other duties/projects as assigned/directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A bachelor’s degree
Experience: At least two years of experience in college athletics (as a student-athlete or institutional staff) and experience with outreach events or other similar events/activities
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Further consideration will be given to those applicants who possess: • A Master’s Degree • Effective time management and communication skills • A working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations • Experience working with diverse populations • Experience working with students with diverse learning styles • Experience with student information systems • Ability to demonstrate sound decision making and problem skills
