The Athletics Department at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Student-Athlete Engagement Specialist (student services specialist II). In consultation with the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete & Letterwinner Engagement, this position is responsible for helping develop annual goals, plan and deliver programming to student-athletes. Will be responsible for coordinating and delivering a broad-range of programs that support self-awareness, career exploration, and promote success in life after college. Additionally, this position provides resources to coaches, student-athletes, athletic alumni, donors, staff, faculty, local and national communities related to transition into and out of the university, career development, and community service; organizes and monitors all community service programs and projects across all sports; assists in planning the student awards and recognition banquets. Will be involved in the development of curriculum for the Student-Athlete Success / University Studies courses, will teach or co-teach those courses, and will plan, organize and lead various workshops. Will lead or co-lead the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Responsible for adhering to the rules and regulations of the department, University, Conference, and NCAA.
The successful candidate must possess solid programming and problem solving skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to develop strong relationships with student-athletes, athletic alumni and donors. This position requires the ability to meet with students outside regular office hours including some evening and weekend meetings/events. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body.
Level Guidelines • Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals • Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience
Knowledge of the student-athlete experience. Experience with programming to support the student-athlete transition into and out of college (career coaching, life skills, civic responsibility, service learning). Experience coordinating, teaching, and leading classes and/or workshops to groups. Experience working with Canvas and Smartsheet.
